What are Futurities?

“HRV Futurities” encompasses the Breeders Crown, Vicbred Program and Need for Speed Series.

Futurities involve the paid nomination of young horses into specific race series’ for which they meet certain eligibility criteria.

Each futurity has its own set of eligibility criteria and payment schedule.

Only horses who meet the eligibility criteria and are fully sustained (paid up) are then allowed to compete in the futurity races.

Money collected from futurity nominations and payments is pooled together and becomes the subsequent prizemoney for the race/s.

Some HRV Futurities are also partly funded by Harness Racing Victoria as a means of being able to guarantee minimum prizemoney if nominations fall below expectations.

Futurity programs enable large amounts of prizemoney to be offered to the industry and provide excellent earning opportunities – especially for 2YOs, 3YOs and 4YOs.

Annually, HRV’s three futurity programs represent over $10 million in prizemoney & bonuses.
